Review: Pince & Pints Restaurant & Bar

Cafe-hunter, X and Nana on a mission to find food at Tanjong Pager area
after 6pm!

I felt that there is a need to write about this place that we visited during the long weekend in August. Yes, it is that long ago!. X and I decided to explore around Tanjong Pagar. We reached there at around 6.30pm, but most of the cafes are either closed during the long weekend or at 6pm.

We were really hungry when we were there hope it explain why I use the cub picture! At first, we intend to have Korean BBQ since Tanjong Pager have a wide variety of it. But we  really want to try something new, so we walked to Duxton Road randomly shhh... stomach stop shouting!. We came across..

Pince & Pints
32-33 Duxton Road
Singapore 089497

A simple looking restaurant that gives off a very old english wine stall feel  feeling ah. And... there is no queue when we walked past it. But after we were seated down, the crowd start to keep coming in non-stop. Most of the customers regardless of ladies or guys are dressed to impress, except for X and I are in comfy clothes which are tee and shorts. Okay back to the restaurant... Firstly, the staffs are very observant. When we drank finish the plain water, they filled it up immediately thumbs up!.

When I saw the menu, my first reaction "Wah, only 3 mains only?". Okay... 4 main courses if you count the Grilled or Steamed live whole lobster as 2 different dishes. And they only serve lobster leh!

Some random facts about Lobsters!

Chilli Lobster ($58++)
"Uncle, more mantou please. Thank you.", this is the first thought when I saw this dish. They are very generous with the sauce or gravy whatever you called it, so scared that we don't have enough mantou to eat with the sauce. The sauce is sweet, not like the usual spicy kind we had with Chilli Crab. I actually prefer this sauce, X don't really like it la. But both of us agreed that the mantou and lobster are good! Mantou is so crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. So sedap good!

Grilled Live Whole Lobster ($58++)
This is served with very-atas-looking Salad, Straight Cut Thick Fries and Herbed Butter Sauce. The lobster meat really deserves my 2 thumbs up! Even though the lobster is grilled, the meat is not dry at all. What sorcery is this? It is sweet and so juicy. I love their thick straight cut fries! X love everything about this dish from the salad to sauce.

They are not joking when they said they will serve the whole lobster! Just look at the photos, very very 满足 satisfied. Like finally there is a store that serve a whole JUICY lobster, not those skinny-meat-little kind. The lobster taste a little sweet and more to the sea water kind of taste X said the sea water part. This is the face I give when they serve us the main courses.

Review: Banana Tree SG

Banana Tree is one of the must-go café for me in Seoul, South Korea. Sadly, I don't have a chance to visit them the last time I was there two years ago. When they open an outlet along Keong Siak Road, I know I must visit this place at least once!

Finally, managed to drag X with me last Sunday evening to try this super photogenic place.

Banana Tree Singapore
26 Keong Saik Road
Singapore 089133

Thanks to the korean lady who decided to bring the brand over to Singapore!

Red Bean Pot Bing Soo ($8.50 -Mini)
I thought that they offer some choices for the 'soil' like you can choose either crushed Oreo cookies or red bean. When I saw the photos on instagram, I just assume they are all red bean lovers. But when I saw their menu, they only have red bean for bing soo. It is a major turn off for me la because my stomach is really weak towards beans especially red bean and nutsBut at the same time, I really want to try it.

Dilemmmmmma~

Fake flowers, malt ice-cream, almonds, red beans, soy bean powder and shaved ice. Just look at the picture above, I would give them 100/100 for presentation because it is super chio pretty! X feel that the shaved ice can be smoother but to me, I like it. Those ice flakes ↓ is like those we had in ice kachang. Atas version of Ice Kachang.

Hmmm.. Before I start writing this post, I went to search more pictures online and I notice they changed the ingredients in their 'pot'. Some photos I saw is using fruits and some is using nuts or almond like ours. Personally, I would prefer it with fruits, but adding almonds also add some crunch to it.

Oreo Bomb ($12)
All Oreo lovers out there, this is good! X and I love it so much Me mad love~. It is a simple dish but my god, it is pure genius! You can replicate this dish  at home. Just crush some Oreos, heated it up and toss in two balls of ice-cream. Viola! Your very own Oreo Bomb. When they are mashed together, it is like handmade cookie and cream ice-cream!

How to get there
Located walking distance away from 3 MRT station Tanjong Pager MRT, Chinatown MRT and Outram Park MRT. It really depends on how you want to get there, I will attached the direction from Outram Park MRT.

Review: FATCAT Ice Cream Bar

Cafe-hunter, X and Nana on a mission to find Salted-Egg-Yolk-Sauce waffle.

... ... Just joking. I went Bedok to run some errand and we decided to go cafe-hunting there. Also, this will be our last cafe-hunting session together before he fly off to Europe for school+leisure. Yes, he is going with his classmates alone without me.

Okay, but to the cafe that interests us!

FATCAT Ice Cream Bar
416 Bedok North Avenue 2
#01-25
Singapore 460416

They are a neighborhood café that just opened at the start of the year, but there are so many bloggers and media singing praises of it. This is the best example, just look at the instagram feed ↓ . Everything look so photogenic! No need to position the food, just snap and viola super instagram-able photossss!

image cr: instagram

Even the sign placing outside of the door also photogenic ↓!

Blackforest Sphere
This one-mouth dessert cost $4.50. The display of this dish feels very atas feel. Sorry, I am not the kind of the girl that is into fine dining. So, it just looks like round agar agar, but more watery kind. So how does it taste? According to X, it taste like brandy and agar agar. By the way, this dish is under 'Plated Desserts'.

Gourmet Charcoal Waffle
Salted caramel sauce. Sprinkles of dried lavender. And everything nice. Powerpuff girls! It is a BLACK CHARCOAL waffle! To be honest, it is a bit tasteless. I guess that's why you must put the ice cream on top of it. duh! But why risking it getting soggy?! The salted egg yolk sauce aka liusha ↓ taste like those mid-autumn egg yolk mooncake grainy texture not like those liu sha bun bao kind of sweet taste smooth texture. By the way, the salted egg yolk sauce (+ $1) is not include when you ordered the waffle ($6).

Ice-cream
We had Vanilla and Yoghurt Sorbet. Not too bad. They have a lot of other flavours like watermelon soju sorbet,  hay & honey, thai milk tea and etc. Do try them out.

Review: Jewel Café + Bar

X and I wanted to treat ourselves a good angmoh western breakfast my lovely fluffy pancakes and omelette before our exam starts! But where to find a place along Rangoon Road that serve angmoh breakfast at 9am? Oh... and No McDonald's, please! So our journey begins...

Intend to go back to a cafe that we went for dessert before but they are only open at 9.30am! Damnn! We are 30mins earlier. When we are going to give up our search and walk to Pek Kio Market, we notice this café.

We were really worried that it will not open so early because it is a Café + Bar. When we walked over, we are glad that we are not the only early bird. There are another couple already having their breakfast.

The staff was super attentive. The moment we reach their door, they are already pulling the door open and greeting us! When they hand me their menu, I am attracted to Breakfast page!

This is what we ordered.

Ricotta Pancake with Caramelised Banana, Strawberries and Blueberries.
When we ordered this, the waitress highlighted to us that the pancake is super big and enough to share for two person. Boy, look at the thickness of the pancake ↓ ,we compared them with the knife that was slashing them! So damn thick and fluffy! I am in love with the pancake. The fruits on the other hand wasn't that fresh or sweet. Lemon zested mascaropone the yellow foam thing at the bottom left taste like soda and not to my liking. =X It is okay, the pancake is supposed to be the star anyway!

Omelette.
Bacon, mushroom, ham or smoked salmon. You can choose any two! My choices is mushroom and smoked salmon, just look how stuffed it is ↓. You see the salmonssss that are swimming in the omelette! I love everything on this plate!

Will we come back again?
Of course, we will! I mean where got any other café that served stuffed omelette and super fluffy pancake. Just blogging about it makes me drool.

Review: L'étoile Café

We decided to explore café/hangout places around Farrer Park. Farrer Park is NE08 of North East Line. We = Bf + Me Let me add a totally not related picture of us!

made using an app called FaceQ

Anyway, we are hanging out at
L'étoile Café
160 Owen Rd
Singapore 218953

This cafe is located at the not-so-crowded side of Owen Road. Saw some blogger took 15-25mins to locate the shop, so I have included a map at the bottom for you all to find the place easier.

How I feel when I first step into the café? Omg. To me, I feel like I am in some reunion dinner with alot of strangers. Why reunion dinner? The cafe is super packed. Most of them hang out in groups and talking about the past, now and future and I went there on chu san third day of the lunar new year. I personally like their menu because some part are handwritten.

The staff? He directed us by pointing to the back because the 1st floor was crowded when we went in. At first, we thought that he want us to sit outside as there is still empty tables. But then, he keep pointing us to back and little do we know, they have a 2nd floor! Obviously, we didn't do our research when we go there. Very nice of them to serve us plain water the moment we sat down! Thumbs up But sadly, they didn't help us refill when it is empty.

The food? Let the picture speaks for me!

Drinks: Hanami & Kiwi Soda
Erm.. Nothing impressive with the drinks. Just remember that if you are drinking any soda drink, STIR THEM THOROUGHLY!

Food: Chicken Ballotine
According to the menu,"Boneless chicken leg stuffed with shiitake mushroom roasted to tender perfection & covered with red wine gravy."
Everything was great, except for the mushroom. A little bit too hard. I like the fries.. alot!

Conclusion? A good place to hangout. Maybe in the future, I might even consider studying there for my exam. They have free wifi and if you are lucky, you can sit near those seats that have plugs!

Here is the map I promised!
